Chance of one in infinity

By jj, 12 November, 2025

Buenas noches,

I was really astonished when I heard it.
Even now when I think about it, it still seems impossible.

Today I made a very beautiful journey along one of the most beautiful Vias Verdes. More about that later.

Until today, I had only come across one long-distance cyclist. So that chance is already small.

Today I met Sven from Germany. He recognized my bag and asked: do you also have a Burton tent?
Coincidentally, we both had the same model.
Then he told me that he previously had an MSR tent, but it collapsed during a storm on the Lofoten Islands.
That is exactly my story!
Then we exchanged our cycling plans. Naturally, they differ in detail, but we are both cycling to Morocco. He via the north coast and West Spain and I via the east coast. He is also considering cycling through Mauritania. Maybe we will manage to meet again later on the route and have exchanged routes.
The whole story together, that's a one in infinite chance.

Today I cycled a part of the Vias Verdes del Plazaola. Very beautiful, unpaved, many streams and waterfalls, countless bridges and (sometimes completely dark) damp tunnels. You constantly hear the sound of water, outside anyway and in most tunnels as well.
The route went slightly uphill all day. An ideal old railway line, completely in nature, no cars, not even cell phone reception.
I didn't see the bridges, only the road that goes over it, but I still managed to capture the bridges further in view, including the underside (see videos).

It really wasn't progressing. I've wondered the whole route why my bike was squeaking and constantly braking. Only at the end of the day did I find out that I had mounted a pannier incorrectly, causing it to pinch both brake cables. Just a matter of getting used to the bike and the more sensitive technology.

Well warmed up today with those squeaking brakes and very eager to further explore Spain.
