What is the plan?
There isn't much of a plan like a route and stick to it and plans can change in detail but I have a wish to cycle in Africa. Since cycling south, starting from the Netherlands in summer seems to be very hot, I will start in Tromso, in the far north of Norway.
The route is made all the way to west Africa but I am sure I will change it in detail over and over again.
Firat I will Cycle to the Noordkaap and then heading south.
I am mentally ready for it but many aspects are new for me.
First I am not familiar with wild camping, my body weight is to much. I am not familiar with long bicycle trips. The last year I cycled for 10 days, always with luxury of a hotel or Airbnb and restaurants.
Can I do it with much less luxury? Maybe, but I want to start it slowly. Not much distance per day, take it easy. Hopefully that will help to continue.
However, I do feel confident to experience the basic life in nature, in silence. With only the road ahead to care about. Really looking forward to that.
Another thing is condition. No problem for me to cycle flat Netherlands, no problem to add some height meters like 100 meters, but the trip will be way more than that. However, I do expect gradual improvement of condition during the first weeks of the trip.
I am not scared of things, well maybe I am? What about bad weather multiple days in advance? I hope I can skip that.
I do got some experience. When I was young I cycled across Belgium and France and only the first mountain was really tough, after that things got easier.
Another thing is that my house is sold and I won't own a house when the trip starts. There is no option to add a pause to the trip and stay at home for a while. My home will be the tent carried by my bike.
I am trying to get prepared before the trip starts at mid July.
I have the luxury to do this trip without a defined end date.
